Enrollment for new low cost health insurance coverage is open until December 15

NEW YORK — Families in New York and New Jersey could save more before their next doctor’s visit, thanks to the US Bailout Act of 2021.

Through the new law:

  • More people than ever before are eligible for help paying for health insurance coverage, even those who were not eligible in the past.
  • Most people currently enrolled in a Marketplace plan may qualify for more tax credits.
  • Health insurance premiums will come down after these new savings.

The Inflation Reduction Act maintains these savings and reduces costs through 2025. Your current Marketplace plan and premium will not change through the rest of 2022. If you qualify for savings on 2023 coverage, you’ll see the lowest costs when you shop for plans, starting Nov. 1.

New York

For New York families, open enrollment is available through December 15. To enroll, New Yorkers can visit the State of Health website to compare health plan options and see if they qualify for Medicaid or Child Health Plus through the Marketplace. Anyone can apply here.

The Marketplace provides you an easy way to compare health insurance plans so that you can choose the one that best suits your health needs and budget. Health insurance offered through the Marketplace will include a comprehensive set of benefits and coverage.

To make a purchase on the Marketplace, you:

  • must live in new york
  • Must be a US citizen, national, or lawfully present immigrant (Different immigration rules may apply if you are eligible for Child Health Plus or NYS Medicaid or an Essential Plan based on your income)
  • You cannot currently be imprisoned. (Different rules may apply if you are eligible for Medicaid based on your income.)
  • You cannot apply for care in a nursing home or for care provided in a residential treatment facility for children and youth, a developmental facility, or an intermediate care facility for people with developmental disabilities.

In New Jersey, open enrollment for 2023 coverage will be effective through January 31, 2023. Open enrollment is the only time of the year to enroll in coverage for the upcoming year, unless you have a qualifying life event.

Due to federal and state changes, New Jersey residents are now eligible for record levels of financial aid. If you previously did not qualify for financial aid because your income was too high, you may qualify based on state and federal changes. These changes make coverage more affordable at most income levels.
