16 September (WNN) — Federal regulators have certified an electric vehicle by Lucid Motors to have a range of 520 miles on a single charge—the most EV they’ve ever rated—and beat Tesla’s best vehicle with a range of more than 100 miles. .
The Environmental Protection Agency is evaluating Lucid’s Air Dream Edition R for distance, the automaker announced Thursday.
At a distance of 520 miles, the vehicle will be able to travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco without stopping.
“The improvements in efficiency will enable widespread adoption of EVs,” Peter Rawlinson, Lucid Motors CEO and Chief Technology Officer, said in a statement. “Our approach is based on the concept of ‘smart range’, covering incredible distances on a single charge, with the smallest possible battery pack.”
Lucid tweeted a short video about the achievement.
The rating bested Tesla’s Model S Long Range, which has an estimated range of 405 miles.
Despite its new EPA rating, Lucid hasn’t delivered any vehicles yet. The Air Dream Edition is listed for $169,500 and deliveries are expected to begin later this year.
Earlier this year, the luxury electric vehicle startup announced the opening of a major office in New York City. Lucid has attracted more than $1 billion in investment in recent years for development and a factory in Arizona. The company gave majority ownership to Saudi Arabia in exchange for investment funds.
