Ethiopia launches two airstrikes in Tigray

Ethiopia launched two air strikes on Tigray on Sunday as the government intensifies a nearly week-long aerial bombardment campaign against rebel forces that control much of the region.

According to the official representative of the government Legesse Tulu, one blow was struck in the western region of Tigray in Mai Tsebri, at the training ground of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (NFOT). Another attack was directed at the town of Adva in northern Tigray, a military production facility controlled by the NFOT, the government said in a statement.

“I can confirm that in Mai Cebri there was a successful airstrike on the training ground for illegal recruits of the NFOT and a heavy artillery depot,” Legesse said.

It was not possible to verify this statement, since in most of the war-torn Tigreus, the connection was interrupted.

TPLF spokesman Getachev Reda told Reuters that he had confirmed to his colleagues that an airstrike had occurred near a local hospital in Mai Tsebri.

Getachew said there were no casualties as far as he knew. He said that he had no information about the attack on Adwa. “The government pretends that the entire Tygrai region is a training center. It doesn’t make any sense, we don’t have all these training centers. “

“Today in Adwa, an airstrike destroyed a center that the terrorist group NTFO used to produce military equipment,” the State Communications Service said in a statement posted on Facebook.

Ethiopian federal forces and forces loyal to the NPLF have been fighting for almost a year in a conflict that has left thousands dead and more than 2 million displaced.

The Mai Aini and Adi Harush refugee camps, which host thousands of Eritrean refugees, are located in the vicinity of Mai Tsebri.

Legesse said the refugee camps were not affected by the strike.

Representatives of the Ethiopian Office for Refugees and Returnees and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
