By now, you must have seen the faces of the 19 children and two teachers who were shot and killed on Tuesday (May 24) in Uvalde, Texas. The 18-year-old suspected gunman, Salvador Ramos, who was killed at the crime scene, is said to have shot his grandmother before arriving at Rob Elementary and carrying out what is now the second deadliest school shooting in American history. In addition to these deaths, the elder and 17 others were injured by Ramos.
Although each of the victims has been identified, there are several viral theories about who the Texas shooter was. For example, new York Times Published, “Hours after the attack on Tuesday, far-right data spread misinformation that the shooting was a ‘false flag’ attack. Among their unsubstantiated claims was that the shooting was carried out to divert local law enforcement from the border.” This allowed criminals and drugs to cross into the United States.” Other perspectives, including public figures, media personnel and politicians, began to circulate online in response.
Former President Barack Obama reacted to the massacre by tweeting, “Nearly ten years after Sandy Hook – and ten days after Buffalo – our country is paralyzed not by fear, but by a gun lobby and a political party. who has shown no willingness to act. Can in any way help prevent these tragedies.” The sentiments of the Democratic leader were followed by the words of Republican Congressmen such as Paul Goser. Gosar, a representative for Arizona’s Fourth Congressional District, took to Twitter to write, “We’re already stupid. It’s a transsexual left-wing illegal alien named Salvatore Ramos. This is clearly your kind of garbage. ,
Gosar’s thoughts peaked at Twitter user @RestoringFreed1’s post, “Anyone else think this is another copycat grouper terrorist in #Texas today?” Both tweets have since been removed. Gosar’s social media claims saw a three-month-old Reddit photo re-shared on the imageboard website 4chan, which featured Ramos as a transgender woman. A collection of derogatory comments and speculation stemming from this LGBTQ+ theory.
Claim: Was the Texas school shooter known to be cross-dresser or transgender?
The transwoman photographed in question lives in Georgia, not Texas. His name is Sam and although he has nothing to do with the primary shooting, he is being harassed online with the spread of this misinformation. As NBC News reports, “A photo of Sam was posted on 4chan Tuesday afternoon, in a post that began with ‘Here’s the shooter’s Reddit’ before linking to his Reddit account and posting a transphobic slur.” Additionally, transwomen are not cross-dressing, despite viral speculation, including by far-right commentator Candace Owens.
On Ramos killing 21 people, Owens asked on Twitter, “What drives an 18-year-old to murder innocent children? I don’t know. But judging by the photos of her cross-dressing, we can assume that there were too many signs of being mentally disturbed and abused by the adults in her life. Social cowardice ignored a lot of those signs.” Despite her typographical errors and unfounded claims, it may be worth noting That a person’s mental health is not medically dependent on his gender.
And for those unclear, transgender people’s gender identity differs from the gender they were assigned at birth. According to Merriam-Webster’s definition, cross-dressing is “the wearing of clothing designed for the opposite sex”. In the mentioned image a woman holding a transgender pride flag has specified her gender identity. Therefore, it is valid. In addition, the Trans Safety Network (TSN), a research group that monitors organized harm efforts and threats targeted to the trans community, specified another perpetrator of the untruth: Alex Jones.
Alt-right radio show host and conspiracy theorist best known for the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that killed six faculty members and twenty children, “a hoax.” According to TSN, “…the Alex Jones Show live stream featured photos of at least 2 trans people claiming to be shooters, and continued to spread through social media… [Jones] It is currently avoiding compensation to the families of Sandy Hook massacre victims for providing false information about the shooting. For reference, the morning of the Texas shooting, a Connecticut-based newspaper news time Confirmed, “A federal judge cleared the way for Sandy Hook families to win a defamation lawsuit against Alex Jones exempt from bankruptcy protection…”
As family and collective mourning the Texas tragedy, Sarah Eniano, an extremist researcher, focuses on far-right rhetoric. An expert associated with NPR advised, “This is the worst case scenario. Speculation, without a manifesto and a known motive [will] gets worse and worse… it also provides really fertile ground for more conspiracy theories… to accumulate.” Texas Governor Greg Abbott is facing criticism for this. About how easy it was for gunmen and others to legally access assault rifles. This reaction for a GOP representative comes in protest of his support for the bill’s effort to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Some online views point to the politician being “pro-life” while proving himself ill-equipped to protect Texas youth two days before elementary school’s summer vacation. When later confronted about gun control legislation during a recent press conference, Abbott said, “I hate to say it, but every weekend more people are shot in Chicago than in schools in Texas.” is killed… Chicago and LA and New York deny it [gun control legislation is effective] … our job is to find a real solution.” His assessment of under-served cities left that “Illinois suffered 1,745 gun fatalities as of 2020″. [the] 4,164 in Texas,” published Nation World News from the CDC study “shotgun mortality by state.”
No matter your position on school safety, the public can attest that a Texas shooter opened fire on innocent children and teachers. Students Alexandria Aniah Rubio, Alithia Ramirez, Amery Joe Garza, Annabel Guadalupe Rodriguez, Elijah Cruz Torres, Eliana “Ellie” Garcia, Jackie Cazares, Jella Nicole Silguero, Jesse Luvanos, Jose Flores, Layla Salazar, Makena Mathias, Mireza Lee Rodriguez, Neva Bravo, Rogelio Torres, Tess Marie Mata, Ujiah García and Javier López were confirmed as victims Los Angeles Times, His teachers, Eva Miracles and Irma García, are believed to have been killed as heroes attempting to protect their students.
The latter husband passed away in a process of mourning. Ernie Zuniga, a news anchor for KABB FOX San Antonio, tweeted: “Joe Garcia, husband of Irma Garcia, one of two teachers shot dead on Tuesday in Uvalde, Texas, reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack Joe and Irma were high school sweethearts and married for 24 years. They leave behind four children.” The story of the García family represents one of many. The surviving students, such as Mia Cerillo, played the dead by wiping the blood of their peers on themselves. No one in Rob Elementary needed to be experienced or die of active shooter.
The REVOLT team extends its deepest condolences to those affected by this tragedy.
