Falcons’ Batson arrested for altercation with officials

ATLANTA ( Associated Press) – Atlanta Falcons receiver Cameron Batson was arrested by Atlanta police Saturday morning and faces multiple charges after allegedly brawling with an officer and fleeing.

An officer spotted the pickup truck speeding around 2 a.m. Saturday and didn’t stop in his lane, according to a statement provided by the Atlanta Police Department to The Associated Press.

The officer stopped the vehicle and noted that the driver appeared to be intoxicated. In the statement they indicated that Batson resisted the police officer’s efforts “and fought violently with the officer.”

The officer fired his weapon but did not injure anyone, the statement said, and Batson returned to his vehicle, left the scene and crashed shortly before attempting to flee.

In the statement he indicated that “multiple officers searched the area” and arrested Batson, who was in hiding.

The officers and Batson were taken to a local hospital for injuries sustained during the altercation.

Batson faces multiple allegations, which were not identified in the statement. The investigation is on.

The Falcons indicated in a statement that they are “aware of the incident” and are gathering information from law enforcement agencies.

“We take the matter seriously and will not be commenting further,” the team said.

Batson spent the entire season on the Falcons’ practice squad. He played in 27 total games with Tennessee between 2018 and 2021, making three starts, but did not play with Atlanta. He had 22 receptions for 197 yards and three touchdowns.
