Far-right activists at the Texas GOP Convention have criticized Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) kicked out one day after a Republican senator faced booing during his speech.
Activists, including some who was recordingapproached Crenshaw, a former Navy SEAL who lost his right eye to a bomb while deployed to Afghanistan, with remarks such as “eyepatch McCain” and “globalist RINO [Republican In Name Only]”Reported The Daily Beast.
Other remarks made against the legislature include allegations that Crenshaw is a “traitor” and calls that he be “hanged for high treason.”
A witness told Mediaite some of the activists “physically touched several people, including hitting them with cameras.”
Some of the comments reflect the words of Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who called Crenshaw “McCain’s” eye patch “after the legislature said sending aid to Ukraine after Russia’s invasion was not a factor in the US baby formula shortage not.
Alex Stein, one of the activists who approached Crenshaw and posted video of it on Twitter, and others were taken out of the building and a number of arrests were made at the convention, an anonymous source at the convention told Mediaite. Witnesses told Mediaite some of those involved were wearing Proud Boys equipment.
Stein said he was “the real victim,” Mediaite reported, claiming he had been assaulted by Crenshaw and his “police force.”
Crenshaw responded to Mediaite’s report via Twitter on Saturday, noting Stein in his message:
The attacks by activists happened one day after Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who helps negotiate a two-party arms deal, received booing call after his speech at the convention.
