This was revealed by its general manager, Alfredo Lira Chirif, who showed that 90% of the production, that is 21,600 tons, was exported, which means an increase of 96% compared to the 11,000 tons embarked in the previous campaign. (2021/2022).
This great growth has been explained by the new plantations that come into production, as well as the trees that are maturing, with which their fruits are more abundant.
Lira Chirif said the main destination market for blueberries exported by her client is the United States, which accounts for 98% of the total.
He indicated that Farmer Cerro Prieto has 1,500 hectares of blueberry berries (1,350 ha in Chepen and 150 ha in Santa Rosa irrigation). Of that total area, 200 ha are conventional and 1,300 ha are organic.
He points out that at the moment his company does not plan to increase the areas of blueberries, however, they are trying new varieties (mainly from Fall Creek and Hortifrut), all of which are patented, so that within two years some varieties are made. as obsolete as Ventura and Biloxi.
He explained that one of the main characteristics sought in the new varieties is that they travel and have a longer shelf life, which will allow the company to invest in more distant markets such as China.
Regarding the packing houses that the company has in Chepen and Santa Rosa, as well as for the cultivation of vaccinia, he said that the first one is already operational, while the second one was finished at the end of the vaccine war, but he is ready to work soon to start a new campaign. The Santa Rosa packhouse is expected to provide services to other crops and other exporters.
