Dr. Anthony Fauci called on China to release the medical records of nine people whose ailments could provide vital clues as to whether COVID-19 first emerged as a result of a laboratory leak, the Financial Times Reported Thursday.

‘I would like to see the medical records of the three people who allegedly became ill in 2019. Did they really get sick, and if so, with what did they get sick? ‘ the report quoted Fauci.

The Foreign Ministry released a fact sheet on January 15 stating that researchers from a Chinese virology laboratory in Wuhan were seriously ill in 2019, a month before the first COVID-19 cases were reported.

Chinese scientists and officials have consistently rejected the hypothesis of laboratory leaks, claiming that the virus could have spread to other regions before it hit Wuhan and even entered China through imports of frozen food or trade in wildlife.

A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin, declined to comment directly on whether China would release the records.

The Financial Times reported that Fauci still believes that the virus was first transmitted to humans by animals, pointing out that even if laboratory researchers had COVID-19, they could have contracted the disease from the wider population.
