Federal President Ignazio Cassis set out on a “journey through modern Switzerland” on Monday morning. Accompanied by a group of Italian-speaking youths, he boarded a train at 8:01 a.m. in Lugano, bound for Zurich.
Cassis arrived on platform 2 of Lugano station shortly before 8 a.m. in the most beautiful summer season. They hope that the journey together will be “beautiful and emotional”, the federal president told the youth before the departure of the intercity train. He thanked him for taking his time on the long journey.
On the trip to Zurich, among other things, a joint train announcement with Italian-speaking youth is planned, as Cassis explained. There is also scope for discussion on contemporary issues. “I hope you’re all in shape, because the day is about to get longer,” the federal president concluded with a laugh.
Brunch with the Population
In Nonau, Zurich, Cassis and his teammates will have brunch with the locals. Before that the group travels to Grenchen SO and Yverdon-les-Bains VD. The “Tour de Suisse” ends in the evening with a large folk festival, including fireworks, in Lausanne VD.
Given the precarious situation, the motto of his visit is “Dialogue and Diversity”, as stated in the FDFA’s media release. According to the release, both Nonau – the scene of the Sonderbund battle – and Grenchen are symbols of the Swiss culture of dialogue.
