Memphis, Tenn. (WNN) — A FedEx forum will continue to require face masks for everyone attending basketball games for NBA Memphis Grizzlies and University of Memphis Tigers games and other field events regardless of vaccination status through the end of October .
Wednesday’s announcement follows Shelby County’s health directive continuing its mask mandate. Spectators 12 years and older are required to attend a negative COVID-19 test at least 72 hours prior to Grizzlies and Tigers games beginning with the NBA club’s October 20 home opener, a release said. Proof of permission has to be submitted. Vaccinated fans must show proof of at least one dose for admission.
Children aged 2-11 must be masked, the release added, and must provide proof of a negative COVID test if Grizzlies are sitting within 15 feet of the court at games. Children under 2 years old will not have to wear a mask.
Grizzlies president Jason Wexler said the team picked season ticket holders and found that “a clear majority” of them have been vaccinated and want to live in a similar or tested environment.
He added that once the mask order is lifted and the vaccination/negative test policy is in place, “fans can return to a mask-free environment inside FedExForum with the confidence that everyone in attendance will either have been vaccinated or they have shown evidence of a negative test.”
