Cuban financial institution, Fincimex, recently promoted a 3% discount on purchases made in Cuba in freely convertible currency (MLC) stores.
Amid criticism for the amount of the discount, the card issuing company that manages family remittances in Cuba assured that the offer works through Mother’s Day, in Cimex and Caribbean stores, and only in the MLC network. “Details, in private”, he replied to a customer.
A Cuban man claimed, “Since when is that? Because I bought with mine a few days ago and I didn’t get any discount.” Others joked that Fincimex and its AIS cards exist despite sanctions from the United States government.
As clarified by Fincimex customer service, this promotion follows from the previous Mother’s Day, although the discount on that occasion was 5%, for purchases made between May 6 and 14.
The company did not specify whether customers in Cuba who still have AIS cards will be able to “take advantage” of the offer.
AIS Card Discount: TOCOPAY
Fincimex, the money sending platform to Cuba affiliated with TocoPay, has also taken the opportunity to publish the offer on its institutional page.
“Pay with AIS USD card and get back 3% of your purchases at Cimex.SA Official and CARIBE Store chain stores. If you don’t have yours yet, request one through Tocopay.com with the first shipment, it’s free,” he explained.
They also explained that “the discount is applicable only if the customer makes a physical purchase with the AIS USD card.”
“At these non-moments we do not know for how long the discount can be used, you should not worry, it will be published on our network,” he clarified.
