To raise society’s awareness of the significant environmental impact that waste batteries cause due to failure to properly dispose of them, the Secretariat for Welfare, Sustainability and Climate Change (SBSCC) has announced the “Waste Battery Recycling 2023”.
At a press conference, they reported that recycling will begin next Monday, September 18, thanks to the efforts and coordination between the state government, the 17 city councils and business people.
“In this 2023 edition we assume that between all municipalities and the sum of the three levels of government we can reach the target of 15 tons of copied batteries, that is the goal, which is why recycling begins next Monday.” The schedules already mentioned were running from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., but a specific completion date has not been set since we are interested in achieving this goal,” said Undersecretary Gary Leonardo Arjona Rodríguez.
He explained that this measure had been suspended since the last edition in 2018 because the company with which the agreement was made did not comply with the proper final disposal of waste, which gave rise to complications that – as he said – would have led to a reassessment of implementation.
“Unlike other types of waste where it is easy to organize recycling, be it cardboard, plastic, aluminum, glass, everything is waste that can be valued on the market. The heap incurs costs, so organizing an event like this involves a significant effort.” “It is necessary to find a source of funding to hold this type of event,” he emphasized.
In the municipality of Centro, the collection centers will be installed from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the following locations: SBSCC facilities at Avenida Paseo de la Sierra No. 425, in the Reform neighborhood; SEMARNAT at Paseo de la Sierra No. 613 in the Reforma district; PROFEPA on Ejido Street at the corner of Hidalgo, Tamulté de las Barrancas neighborhood; and in the parking lot of the Tabasco 2000 Planetarium.
