Finland’s leader apologizes for photo at official residence

Copenhagen, Denmark ( Associated Press) – Finland’s prime minister has apologized after the publication of a photo of two women kissing and posing topless at the country’s leader’s official summer residence.

The photo came after a video in which President Sanna Marin was seen dancing and singing with friends sparked debate over whether the 36-year-old head of government has a right to have fun.

Marin confirmed that the photo was taken in the bathroom of the official residence used by the country’s prime ministers after a concert in early July. Marin is not visible in the picture. The two women depicted have their chests covered with a poster with the word “Finland”.

One of the women, described as a social media influencer, purportedly posted the photo, which was deleted soon after the press began to report its existence.

“In my opinion, that picture is not appropriate. I apologize for that. It should not have been taken,” said Marin on Tuesday, according to Finnish television YLE.

According to Marin, the party was private and the names of all those present were provided to the security team that monitors the Kesaranta property north of Helsinki.

The two-story house built of wood in 1873 has a sauna, a pier and a tennis court overlooking the sea.

“We were using the sauna facilities and the garden area, but we didn’t spend any time inside the Kesaranta house, although the downstairs guest toilets were in use,” Marin said, according to YLE.

In a video leaked last week, Marin was seen with friends at another private party. He acknowledged that it was a “bright” celebration and there was alcohol, but insisted that as far as he knew, there were no drugs.
