Five people living in the coastal area of Alto Verde, in the control of the city of Santa Fe, have chikungunya, the first recorded cases of the disease in the province, with the exception of three who were considered “in isolation”. spokesmen for the Ministry of Health reported.
These are five patients, whose houses are located in blocks 3 and 4 of Alto Verde, one of whom had to be cared for in the hospital’s better care center.
In its weekly epidemiological report, last Thursday, the Ministry of Health had indicated that “no new cases of chikungunya have been registered” and “since the beginning of 2023 there have been three patients, two from Rosario and one from Santa Fe, all with travel history”.
But it is a different matter, since they are the inhabitants of its maritime region, separated from the city of Santa Fe by the river of the same name.
Director of the Vector Control of the Holy Fe Region of the health portfolio, Mariana Maglianese considered it to be a novelty because “we have not had any cases (of chikungunya), except for some isolated ones in the history of our province”. .
“The patients have symptoms very similar to dengue. Fever, headaches, muscle aches, but the joint pain is much more acute and the fever may be a little higher,” said the official.
In addition, he explained that due to the dengue outbreak that affects the area, the first thing that health agents try to detect is the infection of this disease, so if there is a negative result, the second question is carried out, for chikungunya and then for zika. .
Regarding dengue, a report released last Thursday showed that cases in the province have increased by 55% compared to the previous week with a total of 3,606.
All this, the General Obligado department is mainly affected, with 2,755 contracted in the towns of Villa Guillermina, Las Toscas and Reconquista, although a trend of growth is observed in other departments and other towns.
