Five First Round Options – Philadelphia Sports Nation

With the draft a little over a month away and the combine behind us, mock drafts are going to be pumped out almost every day. The Eagles have been connected to a lot of prospects, considering the needs they have and the ammo they have in picks. Here’s a list of five players I would be happy with if the Eagles drafted with one of their picks.

1. David Ojabo- Defensive End, Michigan

The first player on my list is a guy who is now flying up draft boards. Ojabo is now being talked about as a potential superstar in this class. Ojabo has been connected to the Eagles in various mock drafts by NFL experts. The fit is just too obvious. The Eagles need young talent on the defensive line and Ojabo would come in and immediately replace Derek Barnett. Ojabo has a lean frame that a lot of executives believe he could add some wait to. Ojabo has great speed off the edge and would pair nicely with Josh Sweat on the outside. Ojabo is my number one target for the Eagles in the first.

2. Nakobe Dean- Linebacker, Georgia

The trend of this list going to be defense, defense, defense, and maybe a little more defense. The Eagles have been lacking a playmaking linebacker for a while now, and Dean could come in and be the immediate solution. Dean possesses great speed and flies around the field. He can be an immediate impact on the Eagles’ defense on day one. The Dick Butkus award winner for best linebacker in college last year would give defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon a new weapon to unleash on the defense. You can use Dean as a blitzer, he’s a great tackler, and he all around is just a great player. I love it when the Eagles draft from the SEC, so let’s keep that trend going.

3. Trent McDuffie- Cornerback, Washington

I know, I know. The last time we took a corner from Washington it didn’t end up so well, but McDuffie is a different story. McDuffie is the type of corner any team would want. McDuffie has the versatility to play in both man and zone schemes, which is music to Jonathan Gannon’s ears. McDuffie is also a good tackler at the cornerback position. The Eagles have a need at the corner position opposite Darius Slay. Bringing in McDuffie to be the corner number two and eventual corner one is a pick that I’m all in for.

4. Jermaine Johnson II- Defensive End, Florida State

We know the Eagles are going to look to add a pass rusher early in the draft, luckily for them, there are plenty of options for them to take. The next option on my list is FSU defensive end, Jermaine Johnson. Johnson had 11.5 sacks last year for the Seminoles and would be another nice option to add to the defensive line. The 6’4 end clocked a 4.58 40 yard dash at the combine in Indianapolis. Johnson possesses a long frame that would translate well into the NFL. He’s a good run defender with a high motor, he’ll never take a play-off. If the Eagles can’t get Ojabo, I’m all in for Jermaine Johnson in the first.

5. Treylon Burks- Wide Receiver, Arkansas

Going away from the defense for the last player, Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks is a player I have high up on my board. Burks is a big body receiver standing at 6’2 weighing 225. Burks would be a big body receiver next to DeVonta, someone to make contested catches when you need them. Burks is also a great athlete and a player you can get the ball to in different ways. He reminds me a lot of Deebo Samuel, just an all-around athlete that you can get involved in a lot of different ways. If the Eagles did decide to go wide receiver for the third straight year, I’d like Treylon Burks to be the guy.
