Five things to know about PECO’s LIHEAP heating bill assistance program

If you need help paying your PECO heating bills, you may qualify for a federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) grant that does not need to be repaid.

LIHEAP is a federal grant, available each year, that provides cash and crisis assistance directly into your PECO account. A portion of LIHEAP grants is set aside for emergencies, including restoring service that has been shut down for nonpayment, paying for fuel, and repairing leaky pipes and broken furnaces.

If you’re having trouble paying your PECO bill, here are five things to know about LIHEAP:

  • Grants are available to assist homeowners, renters, room renters and subsidized housing who are at or below 150% of the federal poverty income guidelines and place a burden on your ability to pay your heating bills.
  • LIHEAP can provide cash grants of $300 to $1,000 To help pay the heating bill. These grants do not require a past due balance, the only requirement is income qualification.
  • LIHEAP Crisis Grants can provide $25 to $1,000 For households experiencing heating crisis, applying for overdue balances and thus avoiding service termination. Eligibility is determined by both income and account status, which may be canceled or eligible.
  • Eligible customers can receive both LIHEAP Cash Subsidy and LIHEAP Crisis Subsidy, Maximum profit of $2,000 per customer.
  • This program will be implemented from this season 1st November, 2022 to 28th April, 2023, If you have already applied, you must still apply using the current LIHEAP application available at: PECO.com/LIHEAP.

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services has mailed a LIHEAP application to all 2021-2022 LIHEAP recipients. PECO will mail a LIHEAP application to all Customer Assistance Program (CAP) customers in November 2022.

For more information, visit PECO’s LIHEAP website at PECO.com/LIHEAP, or call PECO’s LIHEAP hotline at 800-34-HELP-4 (800-344-3574).

We hope this information will help you deal with any financial challenges and keep your home warm.
