Five Venezuelan migrants, including a pregnant woman and a two-year-old child, were rescued by the Colombian navy.
The traders stole their money and belongings to later leave them on a Colombian Caribbean island.
The commander of the First Command of San Andrés and Providencia, the pilot of the ship Carlos Solano Prada told reporters that they were saved for 12 hours left in Cayo Pescador.
Traffickers tricked the human migrants, implying that they would be transported from San Andrés to the Central American area.
The humanitarian operation began when the navy in Cayo Albuquerque reported to the San Andrés Operations Center the presence of suspicious people in Cayo Pescador, for which personnel were sent to the location.
Once on the site “five Venezuelan nationals were found, who indicated that they had been on the island for twelve hours.”
“Abandoned by those who steal their goods.”
“It was a phase, from my heart I am never safe, never safe; but there is a danger that no one should dream. Many win, others lose,” said one of the rescuers, quoted in a Colombian Navy announcement.
