Florida governor’s wife diagnosed with breast cancer

Ron DeSantis of Florida Gov. announced Monday that his wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

“I am sad to report that the honorable First Lady of Florida and my lovely wife have been diagnosed with breast cancer. As the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made her mark as First Lady. The initiative has impacted the lives of countless Floridians. As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will not only have my unwavering support, but the support of our entire family, as well as those across our state. Prayers and best wishes from Floridians,” DeSantis, a Republican in his first term, said in a statement.

“Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, ever give up,” he said.

Casey DeSantis, 41, has yet to comment on the diagnosis.

She is the mother of Madison, 4, Mason, 3, and Mamie, 1.

DeSantis is considered a potential 2024 Republican presidential contender, but has said he is focused on winning re-election in 2022. Yet, at the same time, he has traveled to several states in recent months, including Texas and Nebraska.

Messages of good luck started pouring in after the diagnosis was announced.

“I’m hurt to hear the news of Casey DeSantis having breast cancer. Godspeed with prayers for a full recovery. She’s a terrific, kind woman all around,” Daniel Horowitz, an editor at The Blaze, wrote on social media.

“Thinking about Casey DeSantis and other women today who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. A reminder that it is #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth and it is very important to get tested,” Julia Manchester added with The Hill.
