A Miami man has been charged with second-degree murder after police say he killed his mother Tuesday night in the city’s The Rhodes neighborhood.
According to a police report, a woman told police that the victim’s daughter called that day to inform her that she could not reach her mother or her brother, John Calhoun Tucker III, 54, by phone .
The woman then went to Tucker’s home in the 200 block of Southwest 21st Road, called several times, and then, after receiving no answer, called the victim’s daughter to tell her that both Tucker’s and her mother’s vehicles were parked at the house.
Police said he then went through the open door and found Tucker’s mother lying on the floor. Investigators wrote that the victim was “unresponsive” and “cold to the touch,” which prompted the woman to perform CPR and call 911.
Miami Fire crews responded to the home shortly before 7:00 pm and when they arrived they found Tucker’s mother unresponsive and bleeding from her ear. He was later declared brought dead.
According to the report, officers from the Miami Police Department arrived and began investigating after firefighters heard noises from outside the home, saw a man, later identified as Tucker, and took him into custody.
Police wrote that Tucker told officers that “He was possessed by demons that very morning” and before the murder his mother “began to pray for him”.
The report also states that he told officers that he had written a note that he had left near his mother’s body. Additionally, officers also found a Ruger 40-caliber handgun on Tucker’s possession.
The document also states that Tucker confessed to killing his mother, who was not identified in the report.
As of now, he is being held without bond at Turner Guilford Night Correctional Center. His final decision is expected in the next few days.
