Florida, the fastest growing US state in the last year

Miami, Dec 23: Florida has become the US state with the fastest population growth with an increase of 1.9% between 2021 and 2022, bringing the number of residents to 22.2 million, according to data released by the US Census Bureau.

“Florida is now the state with the fastest population growth in the US,” a phenomenon that marks the first time since 1957 and after decades of steady growth in population, according to government agency estimates released Thursday.

Thus Florida overtook Idaho as the fastest growing state in the country last year.

Information provided by the census highlights that “it is noteworthy that Florida, the third most populous state in the United States, is also the fastest growing,” something that requires “significant population growth”. Is.

The report notes that, after World War II, the percentage growth in Florida’s population has fluctuated each year, but has always been positive.

In the 1950s, as air conditioning became more prevalent in warmer parts of the United States, Florida’s annual population growth averaged 6.1%.

It reached 8% in both 1956 and 1957, near the peak of the Baby Boom, the last time Florida was the fastest growing state, until this past year.

During that decade, Florida’s growth rate was much higher than the national rate, ranging between 1.5% and 2% per year.

The census notes that annual growth of 8% is exceptionally rapid and that the population doubles approximately every 9 years.

The “baby boom” (1946–64) ended in the 1960s, the census says, and Florida’s phenomenal growth slowed during the 1950s.

However, between 1960 and 1989, the average annual growth rate in the state of Florida was above 3%, growing at nearly twice the national average.

In the 2000s, the trend was one of relative recession from the past, although it continued with Florida at 1.7% annual growth, a faster pace.

During the same period, national growth was about 1% per year.

This trend has continued through 2010, as national growth fell by 0.9 to 0.5% in each fiscal year between that year and 2020, while Florida’s growth ranged from 1 to 2%.

The population of Florida in 2022 is more than 9 times the 2.4 million people in 1946.

Similarly, the increase in population in Florida has been accompanied by a sharp rise in home prices, both for rent and purchase.

The latest study by the Association of Realtors of Miami highlights that the city has been America’s favorite destination for foreign investors in real estate for the past 14 years.

Among the nationalities of foreign buyers, Argentina (16%), Colombia (13%), Canada (8%), Peru (8%), Chile (6%) and Mexico (6%) stood out between 2021 and 2022. , among others.

The percentage of foreign buyers in Miami is projected to be 17% in 2022, up from 14% in 2021 and 3% nationally, according to a report published this December by the association.
