October 4 (WNN) — Florida’s First Lady Casey DeSantis has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the diagnosis in a statement.
“As the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as First Lady,” said Gov.
“As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will not only have my unwavering support, but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and best wishes of Floridians across our state.”
Casey DeSantis, 41, has worked to address mental health and substance abuse.
She has launched four major initiatives since becoming the first woman in 2019, including Hope Florida – A Pathway to Prosperity, Economic Self-Sufficiency and the Hope A Initiative, a collaboration of private sector, faith-based communities, non-profit organizations and government entities. cooperation is involved. Helping single parents and families build prosperity.
Other initiatives include Resilience Florida, partnering with professional sports teams and athletes to reduce mental health stigma; Hope Ambassadors, a network of middle school and high school clubs that encourage kindness through mentoring and volunteering; and Hope for Healing Florida, which provides resources for children, the elderly, and first responders in an effort to combat mental illness and substance abuse.
The First Lady helped develop character education standards for K-12 schools, established expectations for character teaching and the importance of flexibility, responsibility and respect, and provided a framework for providing information about substance abuse. Casey DeSantis was previously a producer and on-air host for the PGA Tour and has earned an Emmy for on-air talent.
The DeSantises have three children together, Madison, 4, Mason, 3, and Mamie, 18 months.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem were among many who shared encouragement on social media.
“Judy and I are praying for @FLCaseyDeSantis, and the entire DeSantis family. We know Casey is strong and resilient, and will continue to fight through this,” McCarthy tweeted.
“Brian and I are sending our prayers to Casey and Ron DeSantis. I know @FLCaseyDeSantis is a fighter and has the power to beat breast cancer,” Noem tweeted.
