Mahindra 7 is going to end the wait for electric car soon The company has made it clear that it will soon launch an electric variant of its XUV300 SUV. It will launch in the first quarter of next year. The executive director of the company Rajesh Jejurikar said this at a press conference. Mahindra XUV300 is already available in ICE variant. The electric model of Mahindra XUV300 will compete with MG and Tata Motors. Mahindra’s XUV300 is one of the fastest selling ICE SUVs compared to the company’s other two models XUV700 and Thar.
The Tata EV model will compete
The electric XUV300 will be above 4 meters, Jejurikar said. This means that EV incentives will not be available in this car. Different state and central governments provide incentives for purchasing electric vehicles which are defined by size and other parameters. Mahindra has now become quite vocal about electric cars and is expected to replicate the success of its SUVs in this segment as well. Mahindra recently signed a contract with the Volkswagen Group to work on a modular electric drive matrix. The company’s goal is to disrupt Tata Motors’ dominance in the sub-four meter EV category. Tata currently has Nexon and Tigor EV.
