Former finalist Ginny Bouchard slams Wimbledon comeback: “There’s no point in using a PR entry in a tournament without ranking points”

Former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard will not return to tennis at the All England Lawn and Tennis Club after being stripped of ranking points from the tournament.

Bouchard hasn’t played before the WTA Tour since shoulder surgery last spring after a renaissance, which gave potential hope that the Canadian will be back to his best.

But on the given reason, it came down to having a protected ranking and these can only be used on certain occasions, so for Bouchard, it makes no sense to take that position and use the opportunity without ranking points. Do it.

“Hello guys, quick update from me. I have decided to withdraw from Wimbledon due to the WTA’s decision not to award ranking points to this year’s championship.”

“Due to my shoulder surgery, I receive a limited number of Protected Ranking (PR) entries. As much as I love Wimbledon and it makes me sad to leave it, there is no point in using a PR entry in a tournament with no ranking points.” Makes no sense. I should choose wisely and use my PR entries in the tournament which will help me get back to where I want to be.”

“I am continuing my training/rehab and plan to return to competition later this summer. I will now use my two Grand Slam PR entries for the US Open and the Australian Open.

“Thanks for all the wonderful messages of support. I love you guys and can’t wait to see everyone again soon.”
