Fortin’s lawyers quoted Hajdu’s interview and comment on fighting his dismissal in court

Ottawa-Major General Dany Fortin’s lawyer quoted a statement made by the Minister of Health Patty Hajdu in a TV interview in May to prove that their client’s removal as the head of Canadian vaccine distribution constituted improper political interference.

The interview on CTV’s problematic political program aired on May 30. Two weeks ago, Fortin was suddenly removed from his high-profile but temporary position at the Public Health Agency of Canada due to a military police investigation.

According to records submitted to the Federal Court, Hajdu told the interviewer that she first learned of an investigation involving Fortin in March, and agreed that PHAC Chairman Iain Stewart would remove him from the health agency in May decision.

Fortin’s lawyers have always argued that only the acting Secretary of Defense, General Wayne Ayre, has the right to remove their clients from his post under the law because he was still an active member of the Canadian Army during his time at PHAC.

They alleged that the decision to dismiss Fortin involved the Liberal government’s political interference in the military command system and demanded that the court restore his old position or equivalent.

Fortin was formally charged with a crime of sexual assault dating back to 1988 in Gatineau, Quebec. He denied any wrongdoing.
