Four people have been taken to hospital after being shot at an illegal car rally in Scarborough on Sunday night.
Toronto Police said it happened in a parking lot north of Highway 401 near McCowan Road and Milner Avenue.
Duty Inspector Paul Kravczyk said officers arrived and found three men and a woman with gunshot wounds.
According to Toronto paramedics, one of the victims suffered serious, life-changing injuries, two others received serious injuries and a fourth male had minor injuries.
Krawczyk noted that he does not currently have any suspicious information, but added that the shooter or shooters probably left the area in a white or light-colored Honda Civic.
“It’s been a busy day in Toronto, obviously, for this type of event. And it’s a matter of great concern to us,” he said.
Police are trying to talk to anyone who attended the car meet and witnessed the incident. Kravczyk said several people were in the parking lot at the time of the shooting.
“There were a lot of nice, high-end cars in here that I think are probably dash cam footage. And we’re asking anyone with that dash cam footage to please provide it to the police or if they want to remain anonymous.” Crime Stoppers on 222-Tips (8477) to go through it,” he added.
The authorities have cordoned off the entire parking lot to collect evidence.
“You can see some marks down there by some white vehicles. I believe there was at least one shootout[that]took place,” Kraciezak said. “Obviously we also have some cars (among the victims) who have now gone to the hospital.”
“We are going to do our best to bring this investigation to a successful conclusion,” he said.
Scarborough was the fourth shooting in the city on Sunday. Earlier in the afternoon, police retaliated in three separate shootouts in a span of two hours, killing one person and seriously injuring three others, including two teenage boys.
Police have also not released suspicious information about those incidents.
