PARIS ( Associated Press) – LATEST (all time local) on the French Open tennis tournament:
US Open champion Emma Radukanu crashed out of the French Open in the second round.
The 19-year-old Radukanu lost 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 to Aleksandra Sasnovich of Belarus.
Sasnovich won 12 of 14 service points in the second set and overcame a top-20 player in his 16th career win.
12th seed Radukanu failed to score 1-1 in the third set at five break-points.
Sasnovich reached the third round at Roland Garros for the first time. This is his seventh appearance.
After winning the title at Flushing Meadows, 28-year-old Sasanovic also defeated Redukanu in Britain’s first match at Indian Wells last year.
Two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka of Belarus defeated Andrea Petkovic 6-1, 7-6(3) to reach the third round of the French Open.
15th seed Azarenka had only 13 unforced errors compared to Petkovic’s 42.
Azarenka has won the Australian Open twice and was a semifinalist at Roland Garros in 2013.
The 34-year-old Petkovic reached the semi-finals of the French Open in 2014, but has not progressed beyond the third round at a Grand Slam since then. He is a five-time clay-court champion on the tour.
Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz are all on the French Open’s schedule as the second round begins on Day 4.
Defending champion Djokovic will face Alex Molken on Court Susan Lenglen.
In court Simone Mathieu meets Alcaraz compatriot Albert Ramos-Vinolas. The 19-year-old Spaniard is seeded sixth and led the tour in 2022 with four titles.
Thirteen-time champion Nadal will end the day on Court Philippe Chattier in the night session against Corentin Moutet.
Third seed Alexander Zverev will face Sebastian Baez in the afternoon.
The most interesting women’s matchup pits 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu against Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic.
