Frenchman linked to kidnapping ultra-right on terrorism charges

PARIS (AP) – A former politician who called for the overthrow of the French government has been charged with terrorism in what authorities said was a far-right conspiracy to attack vaccination centers, a Masonic lodge and other targets.

Remy Daye-Wiedemann has already been accused of organizing an international QAnon-style kidnapping of a girl on behalf of the child’s mother who has lost custody. He was imprisoned in eastern France when new charges arose against many of his same far-right supporters.

While searching for the girl, who was eventually safely recovered in Switzerland, counter-terrorism investigators realized that many people were involved in the kidnapping, whom they placed under surveillance for unrelated far-right extremism.

Daye was in self-imposed exile in Malaysia at the time, but was eventually forced to return to France and was immediately arrested upon his return.

Daye’s lawyer Jean-Christophe Basson-Larbi called his client a political prisoner. He said that Daye only called for a peaceful end to the political system and retained his faith in French justice despite the charges against him. He has pledged to run for president in the upcoming elections in France.

Daylet was charged on Friday.
