Actor Maggie Wheeler has returned to the character Janice from Friends to offer a hilarious musical take on the hit sitcom’s “One Mistake”.
Wheeler teamed up with singer-songwriter Jax to recreate the show’s theme melody – “I’ll Be There for You” by the Rembrandts – in terms of her on-screen alter ego, whose temporary relationship with Matthew Perry’s Chandler Bing has just ended. forever he became friends with Monica Geller of Courteney Cox.
The video begins with Jax, an American Idol alumnus, singing that “no one talks about one mistake” in the show. Monica and Chandler, she said, “got along well, but I think Chandler should have ended up with someone else.”
Wheeler then takes on the role of Janice – with her “Oops. My. God. “Catchphrase – and suggests these ironic words:
Chandler, I’ll be waiting for you when you and Monica divorce. I will wait for you, you know you have always loved me more …
“You love me, Chandler Bing,” she declares at the end with her character’s trademark laugh.
Jax shared the video on TikTok where it has amassed over 7 million views.
Wheeler appeared in 19 episodes of Friends. She previously shared how she came up with the character’s characteristic accent and cluck, saying in 2014 that Janice’s voice was inspired by audition tapes of a “fast-talking New Yorker.”
“I grew up there, and I just know these people, and I just interpreted this character the way I imagined she would be,” she explained.
The laughter happened “organically at the first rehearsal,” she told Australian television in 2016.
“I needed to find a way to laugh because Matthew Perry is so funny. And working with him, I immediately understood, I thought: “This guy will make me laugh on the set, I have to be ready.” What should I do? “- she said. “So I created Janice’s laugh as a precaution when Matthew made me laugh.”
