Foreign sales of sweets also rose by more than 20%.

These products and four others whose shipments also increased are among the top 15 of the non-mining basket.

In the first seven months of the year, six products that are in the top 15 of Colombia’s non-mining energy export basket increased their global sales by 28.8% compared to the same period in 2022.

Doors, windows, frames and other aluminum products for construction; coffee extracts; Sugar; dosed medications; Passenger cars and confectionery exported a total of $1,419 million between January and July 2023, compared to $1,101.4 million in the same period last year.

The export volume also increased from 484,503.3 tons in the first seven months of 2022 to 491,036.2 tons this year.

This emerges from the analysis of non-mining exports prepared by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, based on data from DANE. Additionally, the six non-mining products in the top 15 account for 12.2% of this basket.

The main target destination for these products was the United States, where these sales increased by 51%. They were followed in order of importance by Ecuador, where they increased by 1%; Mexico, where they increased by 213%; Peru, which recorded a 13% increase; Chile, where they remained stable, and Venezuela, where they grew by 33%.

However, of these six products, the following stand out for double-digit growth: doors, windows, frames and other aluminum products for construction, whose exports increased by 73.3% (from $253 million to $439 million); Passenger cars, which increased by 67.5% (from $99 million to $166 million) and candy, which showed a positive change of 20.8% (from $128 million to $154 million) .

Meanwhile, sugar exports increased by 8% (from US$201 million to US$218 million); those for metered drugs increased 6.2% (from $196 million to $208 million) and those for coffee extracts increased 4.4% (from $224 million to $234 million).

Other products

In the first seven months, exports of other non-mining energy products also stood out, which, although not in the top 15 of this basket, saw an increase in their sales abroad.

For example, there are external sales of Hass avocados that increased from $122.8 million between January and July 2022 to $133.6 million this year, an increase of 8.8%. In volume they increased by 16%. The main buyer countries for this product were the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Spain and the United States.

Another highlight is tilapia fillet, whose exports increased by 42.1%, from $29.2 million in the 2022 analysis period to $41.5 million this year. The ultimate travel destination is the United States.

Sweet cookies also stand out, with exports increasing from $17.9 million to $27.4 million, an increase of 53%. The main targets are Venezuela, Ecuador and the United States.

Likewise, global cracker sales rose 19.7% from $35.6 million to $42.7 million. The travel destinations are USA, Ecuador and Venezuela.

And there are toilet and kitchen linens, of which $30.2 million was exported this year, up from $29.8 million, an increase of 1.4%. The United States is the main recipient.
