From Koepka to Kupcho, DJ to JT, 2022 was the year of golf weddings

As the year comes to a close and the golf season kicks off in lieu of vacation, we reflect on all the events of the past 365 (give or take) days, and as you look back at the year off the course One thing is abundantly clear: 2022 was the year of golf weddings.

Getting married is a big deal in general, but finding time to do it in the midst of a busy schedule versus competing in a sport throughout the year is awesome. Special kudos to the big names who were able to keep their wedding a secret until after the fact.

Without further ado, and in no particular order, let’s take a look at some of the golf weddings in the world in 2022:

Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky

Before Johnson moved to LIV in June, he made an even bigger commitment: marrying Gretzky, daughter of NHL legend Wayne Gretzky, in a lavish wedding in Tennessee.

After an eight-year engagement and two children, the couple married at Blackberry Farm, a five-star hotel in Walland, Tennessee. Kid Rock was on hand to perform during the glitzy reception.

Brooks Koepka and Jenna Sims

“Turks and Kopkas”: It was an apt name for Kopkas and Sims’ week-long wedding celebration, held in Turks and Caicos in June.

The four-time Grand Slam champion and actress went all-out, and the event included custom Nikes, a performance by Ludacris, and ridiculously gorgeous dresses (yes, with an S).

Anna Nordqvist and Kevin McAlpine

More than two years after their initial wedding date, three-time Grand Slam winner Nordqvist formally married PGA Tour caddy McAlpine on August 10 in the Scottish countryside.

Will Zaltoris and Caitlin Sellers

No more victories on the Tour, not a single man!

Zaltoris may be recovering from a back injury that kept him out of the Tour Championships, but that didn’t stop him from marrying Sellers, his fiancée of more than a year, this past weekend.

On Tuesday, Zalatoris posted a photo of the couple’s ceremony on Instagram. The caption read: “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. I love you.”

Colin Morikawa and Catherine Zhu

In a Thanksgiving weekend soirée, five-time Tour winner Morikawa married his longtime girlfriend and fellow golfer Zhu at the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles.

It was an intimate ceremony which was attended by 100 of their close friends and family. The couple were serenaded by a 10-piece wind and string orchestra and were accompanied by their golden doodle, Koa, who was wearing his own tuxedo.

Jennifer Kupcho and Jay Monahan (not that one)

Kupcho had an exciting 2022, marrying LPGA caddy Monahan and winning her first major at the Chevron Championship.

Kupcho and Monahan exchanged vows at Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club in Gold Canyon, Arizona, where they met and spent time at the shooting range in their formal clothes.

Justin Thomas and Jillian Wisniewski

In early November, Thomas married Wisniewski in what is supposed to be a phone-free wedding and reception. However, Smiley Kaufman tagged Franklin, Tennessee on Instagram, so we can surmise that this was the location of the event. as JT’s godfather? None other than Jordan Spieth.

Rory McIlroy confirmed he was also in attendance during an interview ahead of The Match last week. The Northern Irishman was a little upset that Spieth got best man duties while he was relegated to the back row (or somewhere away from the spotlight).

As a result of their successful “no phone” rule, no photos of the happy couple’s big day have surfaced on social media.

Keith Mitchell and Claire Watson

Mitchell knows how to work!

In early 2022, Mitchell and Watson were married in Hawaii the same week he played at the Sony Open (also in Hawaii), and finished T-7. Not to mention, the University of Georgia also won the College Football Playoff that week, so it’s safe to say it was an epic week for Georgia alumni.

Mel Reid and Carly Grenfell

In April, European Solheim Cup star Reid married Grenfell, senior materials manager for the Korn Ferry Tour, in Green Cove Springs, Florida.

Bonus: Couple hits hole-in-one with Masters-themed wedding

If you haven’t already, you need to check out this Masters-themed wedding that featured a green jacket, ring caddies, Jim Nantz (sort of), and more tributes to the old dear.
