From “The Lord of the Skies” to “La Barbie”: the mansions insured to drug dealers in Mexico

The most recent example was documented this past weekend, as elements of the Forces Armada and the Mexico State Attorney’s Office sought and they secured two farms and two mansions in Tlatlaya and Amatepec with artificial lakes, luxury cars and exotic animals, owned by the Michoacana Family in Edomex.

EL UNIVERSAL reported yesterday that the properties allegedly used as refuge and places of recreation by criminal leaders, allegedly from the “Michoacana Family”. One of the properties, located in the community Port of Chickens from the municipality of Amatepec, has two artificial lakes; a 14-bedroom house and a collection of exotic animals.


In addition, another 3.5 hectare farm located in the community of Palmar Chicoalso in Amatepec with facilities for raising cattle and a ring for jaripeos.

One of two protected houses in the community of San Pedro Limón, in Tlatlaya, has an extension of two hectares, where there are swimming pools, kiosks and gardens; the other insured residence is on a three hectare plot with sports fields, swimming pool and stable.

The insured animals are 70 heads of cattle, 30 heads of goats, 40 farm birds, three horses and two peacocks; plus six vehicles, including two state-of-the-art vehicles such as a Yukon-type pickup and a Dodge Ram Laramie pickup; two Polaris RZRs; four quadricycles and a scooter, officials from the Mexican Public Ministry said.

The house of “El Marro”, with tunnels and swimming pools

El Paraíso, ranch by “La Barbie”

For more than a decade, the “El Paraíso” farm has served as the operations center for the cartel of Beltran Leyva in Morelos and was one of the favorite places of Édgar Valdez Villarreal, aka “La Barbie”.

Its luxurious facilities were used for parties of the Beltrán Leyva Cartel. With an artificial lake, bar in the Greek Parthenon, bullring and zoo, stables and 2.5 hectares of privacy, the place was a feat in the eyes of the regulars of the farm located in the city of atlacholoayain Morelos.
