6th October (WNN) — Americans view the Republican Party more favorably than the Democratic Party in defending against international threats and ensuring that the nation remains prosperous, according to a Gallup poll on Wednesday.
The annual governance poll conducted last month shows that 59% of respondents said they support Republicans on security matters, while 39% prefer Democrats.
When it comes to prosperity nearly half supported the GOP and 40% Democrats.
Gallup said Wednesday’s poll shows the GOP’s biggest gain on security matters since 2015 and the biggest gain on prosperity since 2014.
The survey showed that when it comes to economic matters, the two parties tend to tie the knot and the one that handles the most important issues of the country better.
Forty-one percent of respondents said the GOP could better handle whatever the most important issue is, while 38% supported the Democrats. Last year the score was in favor of Democrats from 47% to 38%.
Republicans had the edge when it came to protecting the country from foreign threats and fostering a strong economy, the poll said – though Democrats still have a slight preference overall.
Gallup polled more than 1,000 American adults for the survey, which has a 4-point margin of error.
