ST. LOUIS ( Associated Press) — Avicel Garcia beat homer by two runs in the ninth inning and Sandy Alcantara showed her way to the Miami Marlins’ 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night. ,
With two outs at the top of the ninth inning, Garcia tangled it with a first pitch from Ryan Helsley (3-1) to collect 411 feet on the center-field wall for his fifth home run of the season. Jesus Sanchez, who negotiated the ticket to open the innings, also scored on the hit.
For Helsley, it was his chance to save his second blow this season.
Dylan Carlson scored two runs, Venezuela’s Juan Yepez a pair of doubles and Panama’s Edmondo Sosa scored two hits including a third and two runs for the Cardinals.
Alcantara (8–3) scored their first win against their original team. He fell 1-3 in five starts against St. Louis. He conceded seven hits and three runs in his second full game of the season.
With runners in first and second in ninth, Alcantara got out of trouble by forcing Sosa into a game-ending double play grounder.
For the Marlins, Venezuela’s Avicel García scored 4-1 with two RBIs and one score; Jesus Aguilar 4-1 with a production; Miguel Rojas 4-1. Dominican Brian de la Cruz 3-1; Jesus Sanchez 4-0.
For the Cardinals, Venezuelan Juan Yepez 3-2. Panamanian Edmundo Sosa scored 4-2 after scoring two runs.
