The PS5 is a mighty but ugly beast. This is arguably the ugliest PlayStation console ever. This explains why fans want Sony to release a slimmer console. Unfortunately, that’s not a priority for Sony right now. So, while Sony is focusing on meeting demand for the base PS5 model and making a professional DualSense controller, one YouTuber took it upon themselves to build a really slim PS5 machine.
There’s no slimmer PS5 model yet, so this YouTuber went ahead and created one.
According to YouTuber, DIY Perks, he has just created “the world’s first PlayStation 5 slim” and with a height of only 2 centimeters, you can’t blame him for being proud.

Of course, building a slimmer PS5 unit is easier said than done. As the DIY perk shows in his video, even someone who makes a living that way makes mistakes. Plus, making the PS5 thinner, which is already expensive at $499, isn’t cheap. The overall cost of the external power brick, as well as the many radiators and cooling fans that the DIY perks he uses in his video, can easily rival the price of the console. Although it was nice to see the PS5’s operating temperature drop from 95°C to 52°C as a result of the design choice, we don’t think most people would go with something this impractical.
Having said that, the purpose of this video is not to force viewers to make their own slimmed down version of the PS5, but to show everyone that it can be done.
Plus, if a water-cooled system isn’t your speed and you prefer something a little more traditional, DIY Perk has another video where he builds a “stealth” version of the PS5 from a year ago.
Ultimately, the design and construction of the PS5 Slim should be the least of Sony’s concerns at the moment. PS5 is out of stock in many regions around the world. The scarcity crisis has escalated to such an extent that the Xbox is starting to outpace the PS5 in Japan, which almost always doesn’t. Right now the wise choice would be to wait for the PS5 Slim to come out, even if it’s unconfirmed, simply because scouring the internet for a reasonably priced PS5 is impossible for most people. By exercising your patience, you may be able to enjoy the PS5 with a smaller profile, and one that won’t cost you much time or money to find.
