Pope Francis This afternoon the Synod of Synodality was started. Although the assembly as such begins next Wednesday, when the debate begins with 464 participants from five continents, the pope today leads a prayer vigil with an ecumenical accent, with presence of leaders from other Christian confessions.
It was not in vain that the community of Taizé held a celebration of that He was able to create the thoughtful atmosphere typical of the fraternity of French origin. In addition, this act serves as a prelude to the mandatory retreat for synodal mothers and fathers that will take place between tomorrow and Tuesday.
Not to shout
“God does not want proclamations and chaos, gossip and confusion,” Francis said in a direct reference to what he hopes the dialogue between the participants of the Synod will be like in the coming weeks. In addition, the pontiff argued that “Truth does not need a violent cry to reach people’s hearts.”
In his list of recommendations, he added that “being synodal means welcome each other like this with the belief that we all have something to witness and learn, listening together to the ‘Spirit of truth’.”
Gossip aside
“Let us ask that the Synod be a place of fraternity, a place where the Holy Spirit purify the Church from murmurings, ideologies and polarizations“, the Bishop of Rome later said.
During his speech, Jorge Mario Bergoglio emphasized the importance of silence and listening as an “essential key to the faith life.”
Brotherly communication
“Our silence is not empty, but a moment full of waiting and presence,” said Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who remembers that in the middle of “a world full of noise” meditation “is the foundation of speech and life.”
In the same line, he points out that “the silence, of the ecclesial community, makes it possible brotherly communication, where the Holy Spirit harmonizes the points of view.”
