The government has so far procured paddy worth Rs 1.08 lakh crore at the minimum support price (MSP) in the current kharif marketing session amid protests by farmers on various borders of Delhi. Kharif marketing session starts from October. During the current Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2020-21, the government has continued to purchase Kharif 2020-21 crops on MSP from farmers as per their current Minimum Support Price (MSP) schemes, as was done in the previous seasons.
82.08 lakh farmers benefited-A statement issued by the government said that about 82.08 lakh farmers have already benefited from KMS procurement works with MSP value of 1,08,629.27 crore. Out of the total procurement of 575.36 lakh tonnes of paddy so far, Punjab alone has contributed 202.77 lakh tonnes. Thousands of farmers, mainly from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, are protesting at various borders of the national capital, demanding the repeal of three new agricultural laws and a legal guarantee for the MSP.

More than 575.36 lakh MT of paddy has been procured this year (as on 20.01.2021) as compared to 466.22 lakh MT in the previous year, registering an increase of 23.41% over the previous year period. Out of the total procurement of 575.36 lakh MT, Punjab alone has contributed 202.77 lakh MT, which is 35.24% of the total purchase.
At present, under the KMS procurement operation, paddy worth Rs 108629.27 crore has been purchased and about 82.08 lakh farmers have been benefited.
20-year record broken in Chhattisgarh
In Chhattisgarh, the 20-year record of paddy purchase on support price has been broken. The highest ever 84.44 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been purchased here. There is still 10 more days to buy paddy at the support price.
In the 20 years of the formation of this state of Chhattisgarh, this year has become the record of highest paddy purchase. In the current season, 84 lakh 44 thousand metric tons of paddy has been purchased till January 21, which is 50 thousand metric tons more than the total amount of paddy purchased from 83.94 lakh metric tons last year, while 10 days are yet to be purchased. .

So far, 19 lakh 54 thousand 332 farmers of the state have sold paddy at the support price. For custom milling, millers received DO of 27 lakh 70 thousand 693 MT of paddy. Has been released, against which 25 lakh 45 thousand 512 metric tonnes of paddy has been taken up so far.

Approval will also be given for pulses, oilseeds and copra on receipt of proposals for purchase from other state / UTs under PSS so that the notified MSP for the year 2020-21 in case the market rate falls below the MSP during the notified crop period. On the basis of this, FAQ grade procurement of these crops can be done by the Central Nodal Agencies through designated procurement agencies on behalf of the State directly from the registered farmers in the respective States / Union Territories.
As on 20.01.2021, the government through its nodal agencies has procured 298252.48 MT of moong, urad, groundnut pods and soyabean with an MSP value of Rs 1620.04 crore benefiting 159951 farmers from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana and Rajasthan. Has happened.
Similarly, 5089 MT of copra (perennial crop) has been procured at an MSP value of Rs 52.40 crore till 20.01.2021, benefiting 3961 farmers from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu as compared to 293.34 MT copra purchased during the same period last year. .
In terms of copra and urad, rates in most major producing states are higher than the MSP. The Governments of the concerned State / Union Territory are making necessary arrangements in relation to the kharif crop pulses and oilseeds on the basis of inward procurement from the date fixed by the respective states.
The procurement process of seed cotton (cotton) under MSP is going smoothly in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Karnataka. Till January 20, 2021, 8636488 cotton bales were purchased which are worth Rs 25228.35 crore, benefiting 1773226 farmers.
