Twenty-two years ago today, Americans watched in horror as terrorists attacked our country, claiming nearly 3,000 lives and irrevocably changing our world. From this tragedy designed to destroy our spirit and our most cherished values, our nation has emerged stronger than ever, bringing together the enduring strength and unity that has helped us overcome the unimaginable. challenges.
On this solemn anniversary, we remember all those who died in the 9/11 attacks and honor the courage of first responders and ordinary people who rushed into danger to help others.
On Patriot’s Day, we also honor the selfless men and women who gave their lives in the war on terror that followed the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. 776 Californians are among the more than 7,000 Americans who have died defending our democracy and freedom. .
