Sunny Deol and Govinda are such Bollywood stars whose charm and fame can never be lost among Bollywood fans. Especially for people who grew up in the 90s. The aura of Sunny Deol and Govinda was different from that of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Apart from ‘Gadar’ and ‘Partner’, these two stars had nothing special to show for them in their later years. But her fan base has always been strong. Even though Sunny Deol made his comeback with Gadar 2, Govinda is unable to find work.
26 years ago, in 1997, a film was released which was rejected by Sunny Deol. After Sunny rejected the film, Govinda played the lead role in it. This film also entered the top 10 highest-grossing films of the year. This film was directed by David Dhawan.
David Dhawan wanted to work with Sunny Deol along with Anil Kapoor and actress Zeba Bakhtiar in this film. That was an action film. The film was called “Bodyguard”. Before filming of the film could begin, Zeba left the film for personal reasons. David made some changes to the film’s script and convinced Sunny to make a comedy.
But Sunny Deol was not satisfied with this planning by David Dhawan and then left this film too. Sunny’s image back then was that of an action hero. Now only Anil Kapoor is left in the film. David Dhawan offered a comic role to Govinda and Juhi Chawla and both of them agreed to do this film.
Given this new cast, David Dhawan changed the name of the film to Deewana Mastana. The film cost Rs 7 crore to make. The film grossed Rs 24.33 crore at the box office. The very good chemistry between Anil Kapoor and Govinda was also evident in the comic role. I liked the trio Juhi, Anil and Govinda the most.
When ‘Deewana Mastana’ became a box office hit, the brand value of Govinda, Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla increased. But Sunny Deol, who refused, continued to rub his hands. However, in the following years, Sunny Deol did action films like Zor, Salakhen and Arjun Pandit.
