Guest at Biden’s State of the Union address

Among the guests at President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on Tuesday night will be rocker Bono, an activist for DACA immigrants, and the youth who disarmed a dance hall bomber in Monterey Park, California. Here is a partial list of the guests at the speech.

-Bono, lead singer of Irish rock group U2, for his activism in the fight against AIDS and other global health campaigns.

-Oksana Markarova, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States. She was invited to deliver last year’s presidential speech shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and she will return this year.

—Diana Branch, of Milwaukee, whose son was found to have lead in his blood from contaminated water at his home. The Biden administration wants to replace all of the nation’s major pipes over the next decade.

— Mitzi Collin Lopez of West Chester, Pennsylvania, an advocate for people who came to the United States as children without immigration documents and who have benefited from the DACA program (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals).

—Doug Griffin of Newton, New Hampshire, who lost a daughter to a fentanyl overdose. The Biden administration wants to boost efforts to combat the opioid epidemic in the country.

—Brandon Tse of San Marino, California, who disarmed the man responsible for shooting and killing 11 people in Monterey Park, California, in January.

Rowan and Rodney Wells, mother and stepfather of Tyree Nichols, who died last month after being beaten by police officers in Memphis.

Amanda Jurowski of Austin, Texas, who developed sepsis and nearly died due to delayed medical care when she was 18 weeks pregnant due to Texas’s strict abortion ban.

—Maurice and Candice Barron, of New York, whose 3-year-old son survived a rare variant of pediatric cancer. Biden wants to draw attention to his initiative to find a cure for cancer.

—Lynette Bonar of Tuba City, Arizona, a medical company executive who wants to build the first cancer center on a Native American reservation.

—Kristin Christensen and Avery Kolmar of Seattle, mother and daughter who share their story of caring for their husband and father, a Marine Veteran who was injured in the line of duty.
