President Gustavo Petro reacted quickly to the results of the second round of the presidential election in Argentina, where the libertarian candidate Javier Milei was the winner.
The head of state recognized the victory of the 53-year-old economist of the current Minister of Economy and official candidate, Sergio Massa; However, he reaffirmed his disapproval of the new ideology of the country’s newly elected ‘gaucho’ president.
“The extreme right has won in Argentina; this is the decision of its society. It is sad for Latin America and we will see … neoliberalism has no more proposals for society, it cannot answer the current problems of the people,” said Petro .in your X account.
However, the president mentioned that, despite the results, “the relationship between their people will continue to respect each other.”
And he added: “I congratulate Milei. And we expect from the progressive Argentine the assessments that allow Latin Americans to learn from the lessons of history.”
It is worth clarifying that President Petro did not hide his support for Milei’s opponent in these elections, Sergio Massa, to the point of asking Argentines to vote for who is the official candidate.
“Don’t hesitate. You should never vote for barbarism and you should always vote for hope,” said Petro, in the run-up to Argentina’s elections.
Javier Milei will assume the presidency on December 10.
