At the start of the 9th match day of the second Bundesliga, Eintracht Braunschweig celebrates a significant victory and briefly jumps from the relegation places. Meanwhile, the Hannover 96 climbed the relegation ranks at least overnight. After a clear lead, Lower Saxony would again tremble for a longer period of time.
SV Sandhausen – Hannover 96 2:3 (0:1)
Thanks to a win at SV Sandhausen, the Hannover 96 have climbed to the second Bundesliga promotional relegation spot, at least temporarily. Lower Saxony won 3:2 (1:0) in a game in which the video referee intervened twice. Hanover took an early lead through Cedric Teuchert (14′), before David Kinsomby gave Sandhausen hope after the break (56′, penalty kick). The guests came back immediately and celebrated their fifth win in the last six games after goals from Howard Nielsen (65′) and Sei Muroya (71′). Only Bashkim Ajdini managed to take back the goal (73′).
The competition, which will still be in action this weekend, could push Hannover past third place. Sandhausen remained without a win for the sixth time in a row and is in 13th place. The hosts got off to a good start but missed a few chances after the dead ball. At the other end, Sandhausen’s Merveille Papela Teuchert left a lot of room. The attacker used the spot and scored his third goal of the season with a shot into the far corner.
After a change of sides, Phil Newman stopped Christian Kinsombi against the rules. After viewing the video images, referee Wolfgang Hasselberger decided on a penalty kick, which was converted by the older Kinsombi brother. A few minutes later, the referee withdrew the penalty and yellow-red card against Newman. This time he himself saw the scene again. So Sandhausen couldn’t manage to turn the game around. Instead, Nielsen and Muroya scored. Ajdini, who had gone up, managed to score the final point with only a header as the equalizer failed to come again in stoppage time of ten minutes.
Eintracht Braunschweig – Karlsruhe SC 2:1 (1:0)
Newly promoted Eintracht Braunschweig have dropped the last three places for the first time this season. With two goals from the excellent Anthony Ujah, Lower Saxony defeated Karlsruhe SC 2–1 (1–0). The Nigeria striker scored in the 44th and 72nd minutes after assisting Emmanuel Ferrai. Marvin Vanitzek tied KSC 1-1 (54th). Ujah, who is already active in the Bundesliga for FSV Mainz 05, 1. FC Köln, Werder Bremen and most recently 1. FC Union Berlin, is a key factor in Braunschweig’s rise.
Eintracht lost five of their first six matches this season. In three consecutive matches without a loss, the 31-year-old was successful against Nuremberg (4:2), Hanover (1:1) and KSC. Karlsruhe had more authority at Eintracht Stadium, but Braunschweig was more dangerous. After Ujah’s brace alone, they missed several chances to make it 3-1.
