UNITED NATIONS (AP) – Britain’s Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, met with a top UN official on Saturday amid the world body’s biggest gathering of the year.
The royal family had come to the UN Headquarters to speak to Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohamed. The trio later appeared at the Global Citizen Live concert in New York’s Central Park on Saturday.
“It was a lovely meeting,” Meghan said as the couple left the UN headquarters.
The UN said Mohamed commended the couple’s efforts to promote vaccine equity around the world and their and the UN’s priorities, including climate, women’s economic empowerment, youth engagement and mental health.
Meghan and Harry press for vaccine equity during a star-studded, 24-hour concert. This includes performances staged in venues from New York to Paris to Lagos, Nigeria and Seoul, South Korea.
The United Nations is in the middle of the annual General Assembly gathering of world leaders, although the couple did not participate in speeches in the assembly hall.
The former Meghan Markle has been associated with the UN Women’s Agency several years ago by becoming an “advocate of political participation and leadership”. Harry visited the children’s agency UNICEF in New York in 2010.
Earlier this week, Harry and Meghan visited a New York City school, the World Trade Center’s centerpiece tower and the September 11 museum, as well as other New York stops.
