(And if you left the theater when you started capturing, congratulations on your first trip to the movies.)
In typical Marvel Cinematic Universe fashion, The Eternals includes a couple of bonus post-credits scenes that tease future installments of the franchise. Emerging some time after the events of the film’s main story, the first of these two scenes introduces a couple of new faces to the MCU. The Fox of the Two is played by Watermelon Sugar crooner Harry Styles, whose involvement has long been rumored. something Marvel was spoiled long before The Eternals’ official debut – and its furry petite companion was voiced by Patton Oswalt.
About Stiles’ casting, director Zhao told Deadline, “Harry as Eros was a very package deal for me … After meeting him, I realized that he was that character – just like I selected the rest of my cast. There is so much Eros in him. “
The Eternals end up with half of the crew deciding to stay on Earth, while the rest are sent back into space aboard their ship Domo. Unfortunately for the Eternals, the Heavenly Arishom is not at all happy with the fact that they decided to stop the appearance of another Heavenly one in order to save humanity, so he grabs Sersi (Gemma Chan), Fastos (Brian Tyree Henry) and Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani). from Earth to experience his wrath.
Tena (Angelina Jolie), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff) and Druig (Barry Keoghan) cruise aboard the Domo. But the trio is suddenly joined by a curious CGI guy named Pip (Oswalt) who goes through a long list of accolades introducing Titan’s Prince Charming and Thanos’s Brother Eros (Styles).
Eros knows that the Earthbound Eternals are in trouble, but luckily he knows how to find them.
Who is Eros?
First appearing in the comic in Iron Man # 55 (1973), Eros is an adventurer whose interests are known to be in the pursuit of sensual pleasures. In the comics, he is the Eternal, raised on the younger brother of Titan and Thanos, whose abilities include enhancing strength, flight, and the ability to control people’s emotions.
This latter power could be a bit problematic in terms of consent, which has been touched on in some comic book storylines (like the one where he was tried for sexual assault). He was also known for his physical attractiveness, which made him even more different from his brother Thanos.
Eros took on the alias Starfox when he joined the Avengers. In addition to Thanos, Eros / Starfox shared storylines with characters such as Mar-Vell (from Captain Marvel), Monica Rambo, She-Hulk, Gamora and Troll Peep.
Who is Troll Peep?
Peep first appears in comics in Strange Tales # 179 (1975). A native of Pip Gofern, he was originally the prince of the planet Laxidasia, but changed to his current form after drinking some hallucinogenic ale, as is customary. Both Pip and Eros are the creations of Jim Starlin.
In addition to Eros, Pip from the comics is associated with Adam Warlock, who called on him to help defeat Thanos before the Mad Titan used the Infinity Stones (also known as the Infinity Stones) to destroy the universe. Pip received the Cosmic Stone (which in the MCU films is the one in Tessaract) and was able to teleport to anywhere in the universe.
In the comics, Pip has also participated in storylines featuring X-Factor mutants, the Silver Surfer, and other Fantastic Four characters.
What does this mean for the MCU?
The most obvious ramifications of Eros and Pip appearing are that they will play a role in the next installment of The Eternals, helping those in the Domo save their friends.
Both characters are also associated with Adam Warlock, a character teased at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ”(2017) and will reportedly be played by Will Poulter in the upcoming Vol. 3. ”This opens the doors for Pip and / or Eros to appear in the Guardians sequel. Especially considering the comics, they both also have connections with other Guardians characters.
Eros / Starfox’s affiliation with Mar-Vell and Monica Rambo could mean he could make his way into Captain Marvel’s upcoming sequel, Miracles. And while it is highly unlikely that Marvel will venture into a Starfox sexual assault storyline, if it needs a lawyer for any other reason, it is possible he will appear in the Disney + She-Hulk series.
Obviously, Pip’s appearance in the MCU doesn’t necessarily herald the coming arrival of the Silver Surfer, but rather a Fantastic Four movie. It has was announced.
At this point, it’s probably more likely that Eros and Pip will appear in parts of the MCU set in space, but fans will just have to wait and see.
