September 21 (WNN) — Hasan Minhaj is going public about his and his wife’s struggles with fertility after the birth of their son.
The 35-year-old writer, actor and comedian said in Monday’s episode The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he and his wife, Bina Patel, were struggling to conceive before their child.
“Listen now, I didn’t tell this to anyone, Jimmy,” Minhaj told host Jimmy Fallon. “It’s news to a lot of people, but my wife and I, we’ve been having really fertility issues for years. And it was really hard on us, and it loaded the relationship with a lot of stress.”
“We sat there late at night and had a really tough conversation. You know, are we capable of having kids? Are we too arrogant to think we deserve kids? And I was trying ‘You know, be optimistic.”
Minhaj said he went to a fertility clinic to get tested, where his doctor was a man he grew up with “who failed Caribbean med school twice.”
“I go, ‘Arjan, how’s your license?’ He’s like, ‘I don’t know,'” Minhaj recalled, later describing his friend as “an off-brand doctor.”
Minhaj said she learned that too much blood in her testicles was lowering her sperm count. He had to undergo “a very dangerous surgery” – varicocele repair surgery – to remove the enlarged veins in his scrotum.
“Six weeks later, there’s a heated monogamous action between me and Bina. She gets pregnant, and there you go,” Minhaj said.
Minhaj and Patel got married in January 2015 and have a 3-year-old daughter together. The couple welcomed their son in March 2020.
Minhaj wrote on Instagram at the time, “There are so many beautiful moments even in these crazy times. Welcome to the world little boys. The Minhaj family grows, and according to Bina it continues to grow. But you never know, Shooters shoot.”
Minhaj is known for his work The Daily Show And Patriot Act. He is currently playing the role of Eric Normani in the series Apple TV+ the morning show.
