He finds it ridiculous that they are demanding a reduction in consumption in the midst of so many power outages

Leonel Fernández, presidential candidate of the Fuerza del Pueblo party, at a meeting with taxi drivers of Dominican origin in New York.

NEW YORK, September 17 – Presidential candidate of the Fuerza del Pueblo party, Leonel Fernández, today described as a mockery to the people that “in the midst of so many power outages” Energy Minister Antonio Almonte is asking people to reduce electricity consumption.

“It is something that I see as a mockery for the Dominican people: first power outages, then they raise tariffs and then they reduce consumption,” he said.

“What you have to do is be more efficient in what you do,” Fernández said as he spoke to journalists here on a political tour of the United States to contact the Dominican diaspora.

He called for the government to be more efficient in ensuring electricity supply to the population.

There was electricity around the clock

He explained that when this government took power, it found an electrical system that had a 24-hour circuit in much of the country.

“During our tenure, the country enjoyed an uninterrupted 24-hour electrical circuit. Payment was guaranteed, people complied, and there was an efficient and affordable power supply. Today that has been lost, it is part of the setback that this government represents,” explained the FP president.

“If we cannot provide efficient and affordable energy, then of course the country will go backwards in everything it has previously consolidated,” he said.

HOLD THE GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE METRO ACCIDENT

On the other hand, he said he sympathized with the people affected by the collision of two Santo Domingo subway trains last weekend.

“The metro has been in operation for 14 years without an accident. “It is because of the quality of the work and the trains, as well as the technical training of the personnel that we train in the United States and Europe,” said Fernández, in one of his administrations this transport system was installed in the city of Santo Domingo.

He alleged that the current government has eliminated most of the trained technical staff and has also neglected maintenance of the works and shown incompetence in its operation.

He believed that the current government is a “cosmetic government” that makes decisions without assessing the consequences over time.

A few months ago, numerous Metro employees were fired by the Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (OPRET) because they demanded better salaries.

MEETING WITH TAXI DRIVERS

The president of the FP spoke during a meeting this Sunday afternoon with taxi drivers in New York.

Regarding the activities he has begun to lead during his tour of American cities, he said: “We feel a euphoria that is everywhere. The power of the people is inevitably heading towards the conquest of power in 2024.”
