He heads to India to find Johnson Modin and escape the ‘Partridge’ flak

LONDON ( Associated Press) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to focus on economic ties and the Ukraine war, leaving behind political problems in a delayed official visit to India.

Johnson is set to visit the western state of Gujarat and meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a two-day visit to New Delhi on Thursday.

He hopes to reach new economic agreements between Britain and its former colony and expel India from Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine.

Modi called the situation in Ukraine “very serious” and called for peace on both sides. However, India has backed down from international efforts to criticize President Vladimir Putin and abstained when the UN General Assembly voted to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council this month.

Modi has so far responded to pressure from US President Joe Biden and other Russian oil and gas importers.

India, which gets a little oil from Russia but bought it 3 million barrels of crude oil last month, hastened its purchase as other democracies tried to isolate Putin through economic sanctions. India is a major supplier of Russian weapons, and has recently acquired advanced Russian air defense systems.

“India is working with other countries to provide alternative defense options and energy supply,” said Max Blaine, spokesman for Johnson.

However, he emphasized that the United Kingdom was not in the mood for “democratically elected governments.”

According to Johnson’s office, the two countries will announce new agreements on defense, green energy, employment and science.

Talks began in January, but a spokesman for the prime minister dismissed the possibility of a speedy agreement, saying “we do not want to sacrifice quality.”

The trip could give the British prime minister a short break in the scandal surrounding the breakaway government in the wake of the cholera epidemic.

Johnson was fined by police last week. June 2020 at his 10th birthday at the 10 Downing St. To attend. It is one of dozens of meetings where police are investigating possible breaches of locks in government buildings.

On Tuesday, Johnson offered a “wholehearted” apology to lawmakers, but deliberately insisted he had not broken the law and called for his release.

Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections, but Johnson will be investigated.

Johnson had planned to visit India in January 2021, but the trip was canceled due to the growing cholera virus in Britain. A new Corona virus variant hit India and was cut off for the second day in April 2022.
