Part of the Québécois was lost in the Saint-Henri-Sainte-Anne part.
In fact, at the time of this writing, the outcome is unknown. So I take the risk. Ultra-low risk, of course. In interviews after the meeting on Monday, leader Paul St-Pierre-Plamondon himself refused to predict that his party would win.
He should be congratulated for asking himself; only one element is at risk of being overlooked: the PQ will do better than in the elections of October 3 (only 8.3% of the vote). It probably gave the PQ an increase in voter intentions.
The touch
Maecenas is a great developer. Evaluation, estimation, possible, probable, thinkable depends.
The most from the lowest expectations that we can explain a great vote of confidence, similar to North Korea, 98.51%, gathered at the end of the week PSPP. Despite the worst electoral defeat in the history of the PQ, the latter falls.
Expectations, less than 3 years? There was constant talk of the possible end of the party founded by René Levesque.
PQ is said to have had a near-death experience (NDE). “I was in the early stages of death,” explains one.
high pandemic
On the evening when the PSPP becomes leader of the PQ, on October 9, 2020, COVID-19 wreaks havoc: “The second wave is more contagious than the first”, the Journal shows.
In the highlight of the leadership race, the “evening election” was held “behind closed doors, in the party headquarters due to the health crisis”, my colleague journalist Patricius Bellerose noted in the report.
All this makes the event feel like “the first time of death”, even the funeral procession. The candidates sit around a table in a small empty room.
The new leader was so little known that Bellerose felt compelled to speak and be called “PSPP”. Note: he only won in the 3rd round, with 56.02% of the vote against Sylvain Gaudreault, who won 43.98%.
After an arduous, laborious first period, from the immense number of briefs pressed in the corridors of Assnat – as “guests”, since he was not an elected official – the PSPP managed to carry out an effective electoral campaign.
He made an incredible mistake about the fortunes of his opponents. Then he acted boldly in the question of swearing an oath to the King.
Result: The PQ, despite its status as the 3rd opposition group, managed to rise to 2nd place in the polls. PSPP’s reputation has grown significantly.
These success rates have led to a Saturday of 98.51%. PQ “to live”, as Gerry Boulet sings. It’s certainly better than singing “For One Last Time”! But this liberation creates new hope. The PSPP’s big challenge now is to satisfy them.
