The Public Ministry reported this Friday that Jesús Marcano Gallardo (28) and Avelio José Rivas La Rosa (50), an officer of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB); Who accepted his responsibility in hunting and smuggling 413 specimens of Morichlera bird.
For this case, Norris Angelica Marcano Zorrilla (55) was also sentenced to one year and six months in prison; Who accepted their participation in the event.
The situation was discovered on 6 February by GNB officials at a civil service point located on the Maturin-Temblador national highway in the Veladero sector belonging to San Simón Parish, Maturin Municipality in the state of Monagas.
According to the investigation, during that day, the GNB officers in the security task deployed in the above area commandeered a Toyota brand vehicle, Terios model, where Avelio, Jesús and Nori were taken.
Inside the car, 413 specimens of the species Oryzoborus crassirostris (commonly known as moricheleros) were found in eight cages. When asked about an official transport guide that would justify the said transfer or hunting permit for possession, all three said they had none.
When questioned about the origin of the birds, Rivas la Rosa assured that he was dedicated to breeding them and that their destination was the city of Baju. Based on the discovery, the two men and the woman were caught in flagrante delicto and made available to the Ministry of Public Affairs to start the relevant investigation.
Likewise, it was agreed that the birds would remain in the Zoological Park ‘La Guaricha’ located in Maturín, where they receive specialized veterinary care.
