A Montrealer who had been stabbed in a Verdun alley found the strength to denounce his assailant shortly before his death, thus enabling the arrest of the perpetrator who was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Friday.
“Dialed 911 from a phone box to mention being stabbed in the heart, he addresses Lasalle Boulevard and recognizes his assailant as ‘Pat’. He says to send an ambulance,” according to the summary of public events on Friday in a Montreal court, in the file of Father Paschal Hally.
Hally, 51, was a long-time infamous crack dealer, particularly in theft, breach of conditions, and drug cases.

The crime committed in February 2021, he was also in exile.
For his part, the 38-year-old victim Faiez Mohamedieh was described by his relatives as a person “who was always willing to listen and help”.

“He had a beautiful benevolent soul,” his brother commented on Friday, calling the night of February 1, 2021 “traumatic.”
That night, Mr. Mohamedieh’s friend asked him to buy some crackers. After the agreement was made, the victim went to the bank on Wellington Street to withdraw the machine.
Haly, however, parted his way. The two men got to know each other when Mr. Mohamedieh already had a girlfriend who was a street vendor.
“You stole my wife”, the victim would then say to the accused, who was then under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
A little quarrel then took place. Except that Haly had a knife on her. He gave Mr. Mohamedieh one blow in the chest, but it was fatal.
“The defendant, not knowing the seriousness of the injury he had just inflicted, decided to fight back,” the summary of events indicates.
However, the bleeding victim found the strength to call 911 to report her assailant. During his transport to the hospital he repeated the same information.

However, it is thanks to this call that Haly could be arrested for six weeks. Because, despite a thorough analysis of the crime scene, the police had found few clues.
“There were no witnesses, and the inquiry could not establish what had happened,” the prosecution said on Friday, when Hally pleaded guilty to murder.
The accused had initially been charged with parricide, but due to “serious evidence”, the parties agreed that he would be acquitted of the crime. In tears, Hally also wanted to apologize for her actions.
“I’m sorry,” she said, choking back sobs. It happened so quickly, I didn’t want to … I knew him for 10-15 years, we were already close, we already had a beer together … Every time I get up, I think about what will come. ..”
But despite these apologies, which Judge James Brunton described as “sincere”, the family of the deceased still managed to recover.
“It was almost 25 months … he was a criminal and hateful,” the victim’s mother testified. Nothing is more difficult and unbearable for a mother than the loss of a child. I am sure that divine justice will be done one day.
Mr Mohamedieh’s sister recalled in part that by killing Hally’s brother he had “put the family’s life in between”.
“My brother, you will always live in deep hearts,” said the victim’s brother, however.
“The court,” said the police, hopes that it can bring some relief to the final process.
Given into preventive detention, Haly has about 6 and a half years to serve. He was represented by Me Annie Laviolette-Boisvert.
