A process is more than a nice theory. The coaches know it, they constantly demand time for good results and titles and some almost envy them from a distance.
This is how Alfredo Arias sees it, who has a good winning streak at the helm of Independiente Medellín, which will be put to the test this Monday against Millonarios, the current champions.
“We eliminated Millonarios in Cali in a South American Cup. We beat him in his place (2020). We also eliminated him from the Colombia Cup (playoffs in the league in 2020) and from Home Runs (with Santa Fe in 2022) and Gamero is now the coach of Millonarios. I congratulate your board because it stands up to all criticism from you (journalists). I’ve heard them all. Surveys were conducted about whether to go. Of course we now say that it is the best team and the best coach, and it is… and has been since I was in charge in the first year,” he told the media.
“Gamero lost. In a different policy, in a different context, Gamero would not have had this team, which is an example for America today. My respect for this process…it really is a process,” he said.
It is worth noting that Arias faced Gamero with three different teams: in 12 games he won only 2, with 5 losses and 5 draws.
With Cali he had 1 win, 3 draws and 2 defeats, with Santa Fe he had 1 win, 2 draws and 1 defeat and with Peñarol in the Copa Sudamericana he had 2 defeats. This is how you gain respect.
